石头村再次迎来了一个丰收的季节，金色的麦田波涛汹涌，收割机的轰鸣声不绝于耳，而农民们欢欣鼓舞地迎接着丰收的喜讯，构成了一幅社会主义新农村和谐共生的画面。在麦田中，一个特殊的人物格外引人注目，他就是田大牙，既是本村的农民，又是县里的验粮官。在这个农村，农民们纳税的方式就是缴纳公粮，因此每当收获季节到来，农民们首要任务就是将自家的部分麦子送至粮站。而粮站中有一位负责检验麦子质量的“验粮官”，麦子的好坏、干湿、圆瘪，是否达到国家标准，全凭验粮官说了算。在这个相对落后的县份，田大牙作为验粮官，他采用一种特殊的方式进行验粮——用牙齿进行检验。然而，他的牙齿具有非凡的功能，验粮时几乎可以媲美高精度的验粮仪器。
