中国上海杨氏剧团的团长头戴他亲手制作的面具被人枪杀后，其子杨小龙因无不在场证据遭警察怀疑。因为深信大哥是清白的，杨小龙的妹妹杨蕾丽（水川麻美）写信到日本，拜托七濑美雪（友坂理惠）和著名侦探金田一（堂本刚）接手此案，金田一本无心过问，可是没能禁受住杨蕾丽的美貌。
金田一和 七赖美雪来到上海后，对一切都充满好奇，杨氏剧团的演出更令他们惊叹不已。可是当他们找到杨蕾丽询问事情始终时，发现剧团的人尤其杨小龙，态度十分冷淡，似乎并不欢迎他们的到来，这令两人一时之间丈二和尚摸不着头脑。
